I have a vivid imagination. Pictures and images leap into my mind, and I often transmit those imaginations into art. I chose the medium (clay, stone, wood, found objects) that best seems to be the vehicle to express myself. I create.
In contrast, I can be walking in the woods and see a random piece of wood that yells out my name. I take that piece of wood back to my workshop/studio and try to call out the personality within.
It’s what I tell middle-schoolers when I teach a class called, “The Power of Imagination”. “What do you see in this gnarly piece of driftwood?” They love to use their imaginations.
I often ask myself, “How can I help this beautiful, God-created piece of fine-grained wood tell its story”. I usually start first by listening”? I experience great joy in the process.
Below you will find a variety of pieces of my work, and they are available for you to add to your own home (or someone else’s). Take your time and find a piece that “speaks to you”.
